Overview
IdealPhotonics' waveplate/retarder, an optical element based on the principle of birefringence, can alter the polarization state of incident light. It achieves polarization state control by introducing a specific phase delay (i.e., optical path difference) between two orthogonal polarization components (typically the parallel and perpendicular components of linearly polarized light).A precisely controllable optical path difference is generated by the refractive index difference (Δn) of the fast and slow axes of the birefringent crystal. This introduces a specific phase delay (such as λ/4 or λ/2) into orthogonally polarized light, enabling directional conversion and control of the polarization state.
