Broad-Area Laser Diode

A semiconductor laser capable of directly outputting power up to tens of watts from the chip. Its core design involves creating a wide and flat light-emitting region (e.g., 1 micrometer in height and 100 micrometers in width) at the front end of the chip to achieve a balance between power and beam quality. Essentially, it is a high-power "multi-mode laser diode."

Due to the asymmetry of the emitter, the beam properties differ in the two directions.
