Liquid crystal tunable filter

Overview
Idealphotonics' has launched a liquid crystal tunable filter, an active wavelength-selective device based on the electro-optic effect of liquid crystals (such as birefringence modulation). It dynamically adjusts the transmission center wavelength (covering the visible to near-infrared band) by changing the alignment of liquid crystal molecules through an applied voltage, achieving electronically tunable filtering without mechanically moving parts. While utilizing an electric field to control the orientation of liquid crystal molecules achieves mechanically tunable filtering (wavelength continuously adjustable, such as 400-1700nm), it also features millisecond-level response, low power consumption (<1W), and a compact structure. However, a trade-off must be made between bandwidth (10-50nm) and transmittance (polarization sensitivity).
