Overview
IdealPhotonics' silicon single-photon detector, an ultra-sensitive detector based on a silicon avalanche photodiode, enters Geiger mode when the reverse bias exceeds the breakdown voltage, enabling the detection of single visible light photons (400-1100nm). It employs an active quenching circuit for rapid reset (ns-level), achieving a single-photon detection efficiency (PDE) of up to 50% at 650nm. However, it requires deep cooling (below -20℃) to suppress dark counting. Its main applications are quantum communication, fluorescence lifetime measurement, and lidar. While it offers visible light single-photon level sensitivity and sub-nanosecond time resolution, the cooling requirements limit its portability.
